The Road to my First NPC Bikini Show – Week 5

August 24, 2016Allison VaethCompetition, NPC

Hey friends! I hope that your week was as great as mine was! Last week I turned 25 and my friends surprised me with a couple great nights that I will never forget! On top of all that craziness I also met with my posing coach for the first time and learned some great new poses and information that I will use during my show! Also I am only a month out and I can not believe where the time has gone. It is amazing to me that my journey is coming to a close so soon. I need to really crack down a start training and eating correctly with the highest intensity to bring my best self forward. I plan on adding in carb cycling this week and I will be explain how and what that is in another blog.

My Birthday Bash(s)

So I know that this is a little off topic when it comes to my bikini prep but I want you all to see a little into my life as well as how I balance going out, working out, and eating out during times where all you want to do is have fun! Turning 25 was not as hard to accept when you are surrounded by friends that make your day awesome. So Tuesday was my birthday and I decided go out for a nice dinner with all my friends. Well next thing I know, a party bus shows up to my house full of friends and cocktails. Since I have not been drinking at all during my prep and not using cheat meals, I decided to have one nights worth of food and drinks that I did not track. I used it as an extreme refeed! ( I know that this isn’t the best approach or recommended but it is my body and I wanted to have fun so that’s all the explanation that you need)!

So Tuesday once we left the party bus our first stop was downtown Indy for Screenshot_20160816-203159appetizers and cocktails at an oyster bar. There I ate about 8 raw oysters and had a margarita! After that we changed directions and headed up to Mass Ave. My friends insisted that I took a group Irish car bomb, and against my better judgment I did. I must say that was the most beer I have drank in over 6 weeks and it was so hard to chug! Afterwards we headed to dinner and of course I picked sushi! We had a couple group sake bombs and also feasted on our sushi rolls. Overall without all the cocktails and shots, my food was actually almost on point! Unfortunately for me I have become a light weight and I could tell that I was feeling the booze. I stopped drinking for the rest of the night after that! Since we started so early I got home around 11:30 and then passed out! As you might have imagined the next day was actually pretty awful. Treating your body so well and then filling it with foreign drinks and food made me feel nasty for the next couple days!

PhotoGrid_1471808732223I thought that Tuesday couldn’t get more fun but I was mistaking. Saturday was insane! (Before I was really dedicated to working out and pursuing my dreams, I went out a lot, I mean a lot. I love dancing and socializing to a point where it almost took over my life for a while. But everyone has their flaws and that was mine. I couldn’t say no!) So back to Saturday, I woke up, ran a colts 5k that my friends bought for me for my birthday! Later that day was when things got crazy! I started my night with some mimosas (man do I miss those) and headed to this awesome new restaurant named Salt. I had the most amazing dinner full of fresh tuna, grilled salmon, smashed potatoes and much more. If you can’t tell, I really missed my fancy seafood! Afterwards we danced our full bellies on over to the clubs. The rest of the night was full of dancing and making memories ill never forget:) I love my friends!

Posing

Wednesday morning was a rough one but I had an appointment with my posing coach for the first time. I decided to grab a gallon of water, eat my first meal, and tough it out. When I got there she welcomed me and then we got down to business. She had me try a couple different poses to see which ones she thought looked best on me. After trying out a few we picked out the front and back pose that was best for my figure.

PhotoGrid_1471966620654After we finished that she taught me how to strike the two poses quickly and efficiently. Once I could do that we moved into transitions from the 2 mandatory poses.  I had to walk out, strike front pose, transition into back with a flirty turn, strike back pose, look back and move hair while smiling at judge, strike back pose again, transition back into front pose, hold, and lastly curtsy to thank the judges and walk off to the side. We repeated that procedure many times until I could do it without hesitation.

Once I thought I could finally figure that part out she made me do the routine facing away from the mirror. Talk about making me work for it! I probably looked ridiculous but after a few attempts I got it! Now my main goal with posing is to practice transitions so they are smooth and flirty and be able to strike my pose without any hesitation. This girl will be watching a lot of posing videos this month! Also for you who are competing and haven’t started posing, start NOW. I could not believe how ridiculously sore you can get from holding poses for only a short amount of time! I recommend practicing posing before bedtime or before you shower for 10-15 minutes a day!

The Diet

This week ended up being a little hectic when it came to my eating routine with going out two times. The way that I tried to balance was to eat lighter during the day so I had a little extra to work with at night. So on Tuesday I woke up, ate 5 egg whites and 3 slices of turkey bacon for breakfast. I ate a bowl of my chicken tortilla soup for a snack. For lunch I had 4oz chicken breast with veggies and rice, and the rest was used up eating out! On Saturday I used the same general logic to eat lighter and save more carbs for later in the day! I just made sure to reach my protein for the day.

This was my last week not using carb cycling so I definitely took advantage of some of the foods that I am slowly cutting out such as cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and pork. I also tried to enjoy every carb I ate since starting this week I am switching to low carb days which might bring me all the way down to only 50g when I have been used to eating around 150g. #thisisgoingtosuck.

Macro Count – Week 5

BMR: 1,365

TDEE: 1,755

Calories: 1,650

  • Protein: 165g or  670 cal (40%)
  • Fat: 46g or  or 418 cal (25%)
  • Carbs: 145g or 580 cal (35%)

Remember that the reason why I lower my calories from my TDEE is to being in a caloric deficit!

Workout Routine

Since I knew I was going to eat more calories than normal this week due to all my birthday plans I decided it was wise to add in just a tad bit more cardio than normal. Instead of mainly lifting like I normally 13938453_3140067538501_6080823521783298492_ndo I spent much more time on the treadmill.

  • Monday was a full body TRX workout
  • Tuesday I did an hour of incline walking
  • Wednesday I was hungover and just rested
  • Thursday I did a killer leg workout
  • Friday I did a killer back workout
  • Saturday I ran a 5k in 29 minutes
  • Sunday I was hungover and I rested

For me this week was weird because I did so much cardio compared to normal but I enjoyed my birthday nights and I still got in all of my main body part in once so I would say that this week was a score in my books! Also when I checked my weight for the week I was surprised to see a new low weight of 118.8 ! #amazing Goes to show that you can still go out and have a balanced life and stay on track with your goals as long as you stay motivated and focused! Believe me when I tell you if I can do this, so can YOU!

Measurements: 8.22.16

  • Height: 5’3
  • Weight: 118.8 (-6.8lbs)
  • Arm(biceps): 10 in
  • Chest:  31.5 in
  • Bust: 32.5 in
  • Waist: 25.5 in
  • Hips:  29 in
  • Booty:  33 in
  • Thighs:  20 in
  • Calves:  13.75 in

Goals of the Week (sorry they are practically the same as last weeks.. oops):

  • POSE POSE POSE! Something that I really need to get down in the next 4 weeks!
  • Buy jewelry and accessories!
  • Calculate carb cycling and meals for the next month.
  • Register for show
  • Do research on peak week.

Well thank ya’ll for reading about my crazy life and how my prep is going. Remember my numbers and prep are specific to me and my current goals. Do not replicate but take the knowledge and out it to use. Have a good week!
