The Road to my First NPC Bikini Show – Week 6

August 23, 2016Allison VaethCompetition, NPC

Hey Guys! So last week for me was definitely a rough one! A few days after I got back from NC I could feel a sinus infection coming on. It is rare for me to get sick so I shook it off thinking maybe it was just my body adjusting back to Indiana weather. I ended up being REALLY wrong and for 4 days I felt like my my head was in the clouds, I couldn’t sleep well, and with all of this happening on top of prepping I was lacking so much energy!

I did not get in all my workouts and took 3 days off training to rest and sleep. I still had an appetite but since I wasn’t moving around and mainly sitting on my couch I tried to eat a few less carbs than normal buy just substituting out some of my normal daily carb intakes such as oatmeal. I also made sure to take my vitamins, drink tons, I mean tons of water, and not push myself to workout even though I felt like I was taking so much time off! I am going to share with you how my week went, a new high fiber wrap I found, and my progress thus far!

Workouts

Since I was feeling so under the weather, my energy levels were absolutely gone. It was such a horrible feeling knowing that you need to and want to get your workout in but physically can’t. So as I said above I took it pretty easy and did not make myself finish all my workouts. I worked out on Monday and did shoulders with 15 minutes on the treadmill. Tuesday I  did back and bis and that night was when it hit. I started feeling stuffed up and by bed time I felt absolutely awful! That next morning was hell and Wednesday I just watched tv all day. I teach a cardio class on Wednesdays and decided not to call in and tuff it out. I ended up lucking because non of my regulars showed up and I didn’t have to teach my class. Instead I decided to sweat out as much of this sickness by walking on the stair master for 30 minutes. Thursday and Friday I took off due to work and feeling like crap. Saturday I knew that I needed to workout, so after work I did a leg workout that pushed me to exhaustion. By Sunday after work I was feeling a little better so I did a short HITT workout and called it a week. Unfortunately I am still feeling pretty awful but I can tell that I am on the upward slope to recovery and the worst is over.PhotoGrid_1471221098890

All in all, the main part of this ramble is to show that even when your feeling like cuddling up in a ball and not leaving the couch, you must get up and make yourself stay active. Sitting on the couch all day will honestly make you feel worse. Remember to get enough rest but to also stay active.

Due to my sickness and lack of energy expenditure, I only lost .2 lbs this week. I am not too disappointed with this but being only 5 weeks away, I can’t have another bad week like this.

Food Prep

So this week was nothing special when it came to my diet. I just tried to match all my macros and eat a little less carbs since my activity level was lower. I really focused on the things that I could control by making sure to drink more water than normal and taking extra vitamins. I knocked a bit off my macro count but nothing significant that we need to discuss about! I keep craving nuts and I finally gave in and bought myself some honey roasted peanuts. They are SO good.

I think that it is funny how your mental attitude towards foods changes so drastically during prep. Bedsides having to track every meal, I find myself not being able to eat foods that I deemed healthy before my prep started. I can’t eat fruit when I want to due to the carbs and sugar, I can’t enjoy a handful of nuts if I already had one. Don’t even think about using more than 2 egg yolks at a time and definitely do not use BREAD! ahh RUN! 🙂

However after spending a long time reading every label while grocery shopping, I came across a gift from God, low carb wraps.53618651-C79E-F5B6-4B7A-A7292E0C35C3-2572 I have found 90 and 100 calorie wraps in the past but those were high in carbs and I couldn’t really fit them in with all of my normal meals. Then I found Ole Xtreme Wellness high fiber 50 calorie wraps. These babies are packed full of 11g of fiber and 4g of protein! Each day a person should consume 25g of fiber. Meeting that daily requirement will ensure proper digestion, regulate bowel movements and blood sugar levels, prevent diseases, helps you lose weight, and much more. Fiber is considered  a carbohydrate but in the fitness world since fiber is so important to consume we do not normally count the calories accumulated from fiber especially during carb cycling. With that being said, these wraps are literally perfect for a person on prep who has been craving a wrap or a chicken quesadilla. Fiber is mainly found in fruits, green leafy vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. I suggest eating a meal high in fiber for breakfast to start your day off right and remember that fiber needs water to work correctly so drink you water!
